WITHIN A SHORT STROLL...

Duquesa

Duquesa port is one of Spain's best kept secrets and is just 2 minutes walk from the apartment.

The attractive promenades encircling the port offer a variety of restaurants, intimate bars and cafés in which to while away the days.

The vast choice of eating and drinking options include French, Italian, Chinese, Indian, Thai and, of course, Spanish with its fresh, local fish.

Numerous services and grocers are also on hand to supply your every need, incl boat hire, cycle hire, video / DVD hire, internet cafe and a newsagent.

Behind the port lies an 18 hole golf course (Duquesa Golf), designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., with fabulous views of the Mediterranean, Gibraltar and Africa.

Sabinillas

Sabinillas is a 5 minute walk from the apartment in the other direction. It is an authentic Spanish fishing village with a traditional selection of shops, bars and restaurants.

Here you can witness the daily catch of the local fisherman as they bring their boats up the beach, or simply stroll along the pretty promenade, mingling with the locals and choosing in which restaurant to have lunch!

A market is held here twice weekly and attracts visitors from far and wide.

Sabinillas has a wonderful sandy beach which is never crowded, and affords views towards Gibraltar and on a clear day, Africa.

WITHIN A SHORT DRIVE...

Casares, a 15 minutes drive inland, is an original whitewashed Andalucian village perched on the side of a mountain, where people still live according to age old traditions of their Iberian and Moorish forefathers.

British owned Gibraltar (30 mins drive) is a great day out, with its VAT free prices, spectacular scenery and the only native monkey colony in Europe.

Tarifa, the wind-surfing capital of Europe, (45 mins drive) is the most southerly point of Spain and is where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean. Here, there are miles of unspoilt and undeveloped beaches seemingly just a stones throw from Africa which lies 10 miles due South. Immediately inland from here is Europe's largest National Park.

Africa, is a worthy day trip and can be reached within just 90 minutes from the apartment by car and ferry. There are regular departures from Algeciras and Tarifa.

Other attractions include Estepona (10 mins drive), a traditional Spanish coastal town unspoilt by tourism, with its leisure marina, 2 miles of delightful promenade and sandy uncrowded beaches, and a huge variety of tapas bars and restaurants nestled in the old cobbled streets. On Friday and Saturday nights the port springs to life shortly before midnight when the Spanish come out to party – and they certainly know how to party – a definite must for those wanting a good night out!

You can also witness the elegance of Marbella (30 mins), mingle with the rich and famous of Puerto Banus (25 mins) and visit the oldest (and prettiest) bullring in Spain at Ronda (80 mins winding through beautiful countryside into the mountains).

For golfers, there are 60 courses on this coast including Valderrama (15 min drive), the venue of the 1997 Ryder Cup, San Roque and Sotogrande (15 min drive).
